Status: read in Czech
In the center of Europe, local democracies are fighting extremism on their territory. They have chosen the tools of militant democracy, a concept that responds to the tragic experiences of authoritarian and totalitarian regimes and movements of the twentieth century, as well as to the actions of contemporary extremists. The dissolution of parties, penalties for the use of extremist symbols or Holocaust denial, bans on hate rallies. These and similar measures are meant to suppress those who threaten democracy. But they also provoke violent social discussions about what is appropriate, proportionate and fair. In this monograph, militant democratic regimes in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary are analyzed and compared. This is the first such detailed treatment of this topical topic in the Czech environment. Book only in Czech.
Rating: Witnessing the war on Ukraine and subsequently changing global situation, the topic of this book seems highly actual just now, even after 8 years from release of this book I wanted to read already some time ago. The publication is logically divided into chapters by individual states that apply militant democracy. Readability is not the best, but it is compensated by interesting information on this specific topic, which will become even more socially important, at least in our central Europe.
